for technology & Communication
The Institute of Technology
and Communication, which is affiliated to the TU Delft, is an information
centre for lecturers, professionalisation, engineering-related communication
skills, foreign language education (English, Spanish, Italian and
French) and it is also specialised in the teaching of Dutch to foreign
students. The department is renowned for its "Delftse Methode",
a special foreign or second language teaching method. On the basis
of the various didactic principles devised in Delft, all kinds of
lesson material has been developed for the teaching of the above-mentioned
languages. The Dutch for Foreigners courses (Nederlands voor Buitenlanders),
the intensive as well as less intensive courses, are given several
times a year. Within a period of about six months beginners will
find that their proficiency in Dutch will be such that it will enable
them to meet the standards required to study at the Delft University
of Technology.
Apart from the courses
listed on these pages, the Dutch for Foreigners programme can also
provide adapted or even completely new courses designed for students,
TU Delft staff or for companies and institutions. The department
is able to advise lecturers in various language education sectors
on their L2 teaching while offering practical support - in the form
of training and coaching - directed at showing lecturers how to
use this material.
As well as the course books
and audio-material different computer programmes, designed for internal
and external use, have been developed. Upon request, teaching resources
may also be developed for groups within and outside Delft University
of Technology. Upon request, teaching resources may also be developed
for groups within and outside Delft University of Technology. The
books and cd's are obtainable at the bookshop Selexyz near
the TU-library or from the publisher 'Uitgeverij Boom'. Other material
required for any one of the courses can be bought at the Secretary, Jaffalaan 5, room b1.130.
Regular research is carried
out into the various aspects of foreign language acquisition and
into the deploying of teaching resources. The continual interaction
between the theory and practice sides of education fits in with
endeavours to perfect methods and materials.
